I know I am grateful to have had a chance to know Norman as an older man near the end of his life. At a time in life when we all reflect on family and friends. I learned a lot about life and shared in some great moments with him. I met Norman as a young man at 19. I got to share some good memories. We both worked at a paint store. We would eat together and he would talk about history, his life and his love of trains. Boy did I learn what real passion is. The picture books of trains!!!
We’d talk about everything and everyone to pass the time. When I had to move on eventually and went to Chicago to finish my ungrad @ 26 it became harder to stay in touch. I got to see Norman 1 last time before I left Westward. I was glad he was out of Hackensack finally. My wife knew him as well while she and I were dating. They shared in some laughs along the journey as well. We will miss him.
2 quotes from what I remember him saying all the time:
“ Diet Coke with no ice”
“ I went to the train yard with the guys this weekend....”
