Obituary of Elizabeth Berner

Elizabeth Papics Berner, age 87, formerly of Washington NJ, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the Care Center of Brakley Park in Phillipsburg, NJ. Elizabeth was born November 17, 1929 in Milford, NJ. She is the daughter of the late Michael and the late Helen (Szabo) Papics. .

A graduate of Frenchtown High school, Liz worked for many years with the Warren County Rape and Crisis Center as a Counselor and also as a detention officer at the Warren Acres Detention Center in White Twp.

Liz was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph Berner, brothers Michael, Stephen and John and sisters; Matilda Hotchkins, Irene Biscar and Anna Gruver.

Surviving is her son: Barry and his wife Kitty Berner of Fairbanks, AK; Sister: Peg Oram of Oxford, NJ, brother: Frank Papics of GA; also surviving are her grandchildren, Aaron, Briana and Cole Berner.

Friends and relatives may visit on Friday October 13, from 6:00 until 8:00pm at the DeVoe Funeral Service, 136 West Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ. A funeral service will be offered on Saturday October 14, at 11:00am at the funeral home. Burial next to her beloved husband Joe at the Hillside Cemetery in Oxford will immediately follow the service.
