Aunt Gladys: You were always so strong and independent and lived an incredible life and I always admired you for that. I will always cherish the summers I spent on the farm--I believe that's where my appreciation for the outdoors and the natural world began. I hope wherever you are, you are finally at peace. Love, Trish

Carol and Claude I want to extend to you my deep sympathy on the death of your mom. I remember her so well. Good friend, good person. Whenever my parents needed anything at all, your mom was there to help. It has been a long time since I was there, but I am honored to say I lived and shared the mountain with Gladys.

Although Gladys was my Mothers Aunt, we children were never allowed to say Aunt because our father was 3 months older then her. But in another sense Gladys was more than a mother, aunt or grandmother, Gladys was (and IS) an INSTITUTION in our families. In the 50s and early 60s we children spent much time on the mountain or farm which it was then. Gladys and Ernst taught us many things about farming, plants and animals (especially chickens). Gladys was always for us there. In later years after I left the USofA with the Army, settling in Germany; when I came back for a visit she had time and was always there for my family and I. In later years, Gladys even came down off the mountain to visit us when we were in country. We miss her.

My sympathies go out to each member of Gladys' family. It was my honor to serve with Gladys for a number of years on the WCCC Board of Trustees. Warm but ""fiesty"" is the way I would describe Gladys, impossible not like her. With Fond Regards; Harry

I loved Gladys. She was a very real force in our family. To have Gladys present at a family function was a must. She brought energy and joy and she will be sorely missed. But the place where she shined the brightest was ""up on the hill"". That was her domain. It gave her inspiration and strength and peace. I'm going to miss Gladys. She was special to me. My love to both of you, Claude and Carol.
